Frequently Asked Questions:

What should I expect?

We think you will be surprised! Every time you choose to walk through the doors at First Baptist you will enjoy great music (traditional or contemporary), an upbeat atmosphere and teaching aimed at helping us deal with real life issues. No pretense, real people learning together how to live the best possible life.

What should I wear?

We want you to be comfortable. In the contemporary service (11:00) you will see a lot of casual attire and in the traditional service (8:30) a few more coats and ties. We’re far more focused on people than clothes. Come as you are.

Will I be singled out or expected to give?

Not at all! First Baptist is supported through the gifts of our members and other believers who call First Baptist their church home. As our guest we want you to receive something, not give something. We treat everybody the same. You will not be singled out.

How do I get there?

We are located at 200 S. Trenton Street, in the heart of Ruston, just a few blocks east of Louisiana Tech. Drop-in for one of our services and try it out. You’ll be glad you did!

First

We are a church that seeks to love God and love people. Jesus says the two most important things are to love God fully and to love others as ourselves. We believe we actively demonstrate our love for God by loving people the way Jesus does.

Second

There are over six billion people on our planet, and we believe God wants every one of us to have a personal relationship with Him by trusting in Jesus to be our Savior and Lord. We are committed to being an active part in bringing this about.

Third

We believe the Bible is true; it is authoritative and applicable to every aspect of our lives. We are committed to presenting the timeless message in ways that are relevant, redemptive, and clear.

 Fourth

We believe we are utterly dependent upon God for all that we are, all that we have, and all we hope to be. Through prayer, we connect with God and acknowledge these truths and gain strength, hope, joy, and love for the journey.

Fifth

We are a church that believes in the significance of the church! As the body and bride of Christ we value the church as the most important organism in the community and the world. We take the church’s mission seriously, but not ourselves.

 Sixth

We care how we are doing. We consistently evaluate to ensure we are providing opportunities for people to take needed steps. Whether that is an initial step toward God, our relationships with one another, or opportunities for service, we believe faith is a journey and steps need to be taken.

Seventh

We have voluntarily affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention, Willow Creek Association of Churches, and Fellowship Connection.

How to begin life’s most meaningful journey.

God loves us in a huge way and wants us to experience the great purposes he has planned for our lives. To do that, each of us must look honestly at our position and poverty before God.

“All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God” Romans 3:23. God is an awesome, perfect God, each of us has failed at times to live up to what He expects. “The wages of sin is death” Romans 6:23a. Without God’s help we are dead in the water with God. “But the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” Romans 6:23b. Because of God’s huge love for each of us he has helped us:

“God demonstrates his own love for us in this, while we were still sinners Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8. He didn’t ask us to clean our act up – He provided the way for us. That is true for us all, no matter who we are, what we have done- God still loves us. “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Romans 10:13. Everyone!

If you do not know God, you can right now- right where you are! Here’s how – Simply pray this prayer (talk to God):

“God I know that I have messed up at times and have not lived in a way that is right with you. I am trusting you to give me a better way through Jesus right now. I need you to forgive me and show me a better way to live my life. I am believing you can and will change me and open up your purposes for my life. I’m asking you to help me live those purposes out in my life. Thank you for forgiving me and helping me be different.”

Welcome to life’s most meaningful journey. Did you know that if you prayed that prayer, God will not only do just what you asked? He is excited about it! Luke 15:10 says- There is excitement in heaven over your decision to follow Jesus!

A few steps to starting your journey in a healthy way.

  1. Come worship with us and let us know about your decision. (If you’re not local, find a Bible believing church near you and let them know about your decision).
  2. Talk to God (pray). He is eager to hear from you and start your relationship growing.
  3. Find a modern translation of the Bible (NIV, NLT, or The Message) and begin spending time reading it. For a suggestion of where to begin- start in the New Testament with John and then Romans.
