Season of Praise . . .
Season of Praise . . .
In Creation's perfect balance, the southern hemisphere balances the northern hemisphere across the seasons. As the south moves from summer to autumn (a favorite of many), the north moves from winter to welcome the spring. Tree branches that appeared barren are actually prolific with buds . . . ready to open as new leaves when the time is right. Green blades of grass emerge from the brown sod of winter lawns . . . and perennials send up foliage and stalks crowned with flowers of vibrant colors.
On the fauna side of life, birds sing in the mornings, frogs croak in the evenings, lambs and colts frolic in meadows, and our hearts fill with joy. In the household, winter sweaters are put away and the winter blankets are removed from the beds. Children get their bicycles out of the garage and soften up their ball gloves. Each season brings new blessings, but especially in the spring, we can look to the skies . . . whether sunny, starry, or peppered with rain drops. And we can lift our praise to God for the pure joy of living and witnessing renewed life around us.
God has assigned us stewardship responsibility for the natural resources and all the creatures that occupy them. We have access to its bounty and beauty, to sustain both our physical needs and to grant our desire for pleasure. The majesty of earth's mountains, the music of her brooks and waterfalls, and the aura of her sunsets . . . call us to song and devotion.
"It is good to praise the Lord and make music to your name,
O Most High, proclaiming your love in the morning and your
faithfulness at night, to the music of the ten-stringed lyre
and the melody of the harp." Psalm 92:1-3 (NIV)
