Season of Joy . . .

Season of Joy . . .

By reading The Old Farmer's Almanac Companion Newsletter, Monday through Friday, I discover some factual minutia almost every day.  I have learned that the significance of February 2nd is not just a groundhog day that predicts the nearness or delay of spring; it is the halfway date between the first day of winter and the first day of spring.  (Did you know that?)

From February 2nd onward, winter is headed downhill to spring's arrival.  The month of March will come in like either a lion or a lamb and . . . as the adage goes, leave as the other.  Days of warm or cold, calm or windy, sunny or cloudy . . . the March weather is all over the board.  Our clocks move from standard time to daylight saving time providing longer evenings to stay busy.  It all seems to reflect labor pains birthing the arrival of the spring season.

Arrival of our new life in Christ can be like spring breaking out.  It may be preceded by insecurity, unpredictability, and indecision, but once the commitment is made to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior of our life, it is like tree buds bursting into leaves and flowers blooming.

Joy comes we never knew before, burdens are lifted, and activities in worship, Bible study, and Christian fellowship occupy our weeks.  The Apostle James tells us that this new life emanates from God and is sustained through Bible truths that guide us.  The Holy Spirit points us to sound decisions and encouragement to discover gifts and talents we never used before and to direct them to God's honor and glory.

"Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.  He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created." James 1:17-18 (NIV)
