"From Our Homes to Yours at Thanksgiving Time"

"From Our Homes to Yours at Thanksgiving Time"
          . . . Extol!

"I will extol the LORD at all times; his praise will always be on my lips." Psalm 34:1
(NIV)

Extol?  We don't use the word much, but we "extol" all the time: over the triumphs of our favorite team, the frying skills of momma, the dependability of our old truck.

It means to "praise enthusiastically, go into raptures over, sing the praises of, acclaim, exalt, rhapsodize over, rave about . . .."

Extol.

David found happiness in the Lord and shared it in this Psalm.  Even when former friends sought to slay the king-to-be, he rested in the companionship of His Maker.

"I sought the Lord," (Verse 4), "and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears."

And the Lord, the Bible tells us, delighted in David, a man after God's own heart.  The Lord delights in you, also.

The Creator of all that is, the Person who owns it all, the beginning and the end, delights in those who love Him.  We give thanks to God, but He gave thanks to us, and loved us, first.

In this Thanksgiving time of big meals, Verse 8 seems to fit well on the menu. "Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him."

The Lord invites us to a feast daily, of Himself and all that He has.  You've really got to fix your mind on it to begin to appreciate the power of the Maker of all good things and the treasures He offers to all and gives to those who delight in Him.

So save room these holidays for the giver of the feast.  Extol the Lord at all times, because He loves you at all times.  Taste and see that the Lord is good.
