A Life Being Lived . . .

A Life Being Lived . . .
The term "resolve" is  both a noun and a verb.  As a verb we resolve or commit to do something.  As a noun, that commitment becomes our resolve.  As I pondered the topic of New Year's resolutions, hymn lyrics to "I Am Resolved" (Palmer Hartsough,  1896)  came to mind.
The first lines of the five verses read:  "I am resolved no longer to linger . . ."
I am resolved to go to the Savior . . .
I am resolved to follow the Savior . . .
I am resolved to enter the kingdom . . .
And lastly, I am resolved, and who will go with me? . . . "
The message depicts . . . (1) one who makes a decision to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior, and (2) then carries it out.  They (3) will follow the Lord's leading (4) to the end of life and (5) call others to walk the Way with them.
The complete verse three is the key to a blessed and fruitful life . . . "I am resolved to follow the Savior, Faithful and true each day; Heed what He sayeth, do what He willeth, He is the living Way."
As we embark on a New Year, it is not really new; it is a continuation of our time and our life.  The activities and assignments we accomplished last year are history.  Many duties lie before us.  More accomplishments are either expected of us or hoped for in our own mind.  We need to follow the "straight and narrow," praising God for blessings and asking forgiveness for our failures.  Jesus told His disciples He would be leaving them to prepare a grand place for them to join Him.
"Thomas said to him, 'Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how can we know the way?' Jesus answered, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'"  John 14:5-6 (NIV)
Our best resolution for the New Year is that we . . . "walk with the Lord in the light of His Word" as we "Trust and Obey" (another great hymn)!  Happy New Year 2021!
